Dental Bridges in Tucson,AZ

Dental bridges are an effective solution for replacing one or more missing teeth, restoring both the appearance and functionality of your smile. You can find this dental treatment at Frank Son, DDS in Tucson, AZ.

What is a bridge?

A dental bridge is a fixed dental prosthetic that is attached to the natural teeth neighboring a gap in your smile. The prosthetic teeth, called the pontic, literally bridges the gap where the teeth are missing. Bridges can be made from gold, alloys, porcelain, or a combination of these materials.

Benefits of a dental bridge

  • Restore the smile (in appearance and function)
  • Restore the ability to chew and speak properly
  • Prevent the remaining teeth from shifting out of position into the gap
  • Maintain the shape of the face
  • Distribute biting forces properly

Procedure

Having a dental bridge placed usually takes at least two appointments at Frank Son, DDS. The abutment teeth (that support the bridge) will be prepared during your first appointment. These teeth will be shaved down a small portion in order to create enough room to support a crown. Impressions of the abutment teeth and the gap will be made and sent to a dental laboratory where the bridge will be made. Your dentist will place a temporary bridge over the treated area to keep it protected until the bridge is completed.

To have the permanent bridge placed, you will return to our office for a second appointment and have the temporary bridge removed. Your dentist will check the fit of the bridge and make adjustments, if needed, before permanently cementing the bridge into place. It may take multiple visits to achieve the perfect fit with the framework of the bridge and the bite of your teeth.

Maintaining a dental bridge

You will have to take care of cleaning your bridge and the areas around it in order to get the best use from it. With proper maintenance, bridges can be expected to last over ten years.
